Marsh Harbor

We rented a car to head off to Marsh Harbor so Carla could have a dentist examine her damaged crown and afterward tour the settlement.  The rental car was a Honda with the steering wheel on the right side.  It also had a GPS system to help with navigation.  The challenge was all the controls were in Japanese and the female voice directing our route was also fluent in Japanese but not bi-lingual.  We did have a map; however, as we are discovering, most roads have no name signs.  Asking for directions was also ineffective as people use landmarks as reference points which we often missed resulting in our having to frequently backtrack and consult with another local.  We eventually arrived at our destination albeit in a round-about manner.

Waiting for the Dentist

Carla’s dental appointment was for 2 PM.  So, we went to Snappas for lunch.  Carla got the broiled snapper with fries.  Dwayne ordered a dozen conch fritters and onion rings.  Sands beer for the boys and ice tea for the girls.  The meal was very good and we had left-overs to take out.

Hygenist - X -Rays and Cleaning

Carla was dropped at the dentist’s office.  The rest of us went to check out the marinas, hardware stores and a liquor store.  We bought some more Ricardo Golden Rum for $10 a liter bottle.  It makes a good Goombay Smash.  Carla’s dental work was finished in a little over an hour.  We then headed to Maxwell’s Super Market to check out prices and get some milk.  Maxwell’s was a “real” supermarket just like those back home.  The prices were pretty good too compared to what we have seen on the smaller islands.  We got our milk for $4.52 a gallon compared to a little over $8 a gallon on Green Turtle Cay.

Happy Birthday Carla

We eventually wound our way up the main road back to Treasure Cay.  The landscape along the road is flat, dry and scrub covered with a few scrawny pine trees.  The trip from Treasure Island to Marsh Harbor is about 25 miles and the posted speed limit is 45 mph.  I don’t think you would want to go much faster as the highway has numerous patched potholes and rough spots.  We arrived at Treasure Cay just before dark and celebrated Carla’s birthday with cheese cake and Goombay Smash.  Frank is getting pretty good at making delicious and potent Goombays.
