The Vessel

Foreign Affair

Foreign Affair is an auxiliary-powered masthead sloop just over 38 feet in length designed by Gerry Douglas and built by Catalina Yachts in 2002 with hull number 360. Just under three hundred and ninety Catalina 380s were produced during the period 1997–2003.

The Catalina 380 was named Cruising World’s “Boat of the Year” in the mid-sized cruiser category.

Seaworthiness, ease of handling, floor plan and affordability all contributed to making the Catalina 380 an attractive cruising vessel. Changes were made during the production of the Catalina 380 which improved upon an already successful boat.

Foreign Affair is the two-cabin version with a large centerline berth in the main, aft cabin. She is powered by a 3-cylinder, 40-horse power, Yanmar 3JH3E engine coupled to a Kanzaki transmission. Charleston Spar manufactured the mast and boom. The full-batten mainsail and 135 genoa were made by Catalina. The genoa is on a Schaefer furler.

Although technically rated as a Class A Ocean boat, we intend to use her primarily as a coastal cruiser and island hopper in the Bahamas and perhaps the Caribbean.
