Great Guana Cay

We had breakfast and took care of a few chores before heading off to join Frank and Carol for a day on the beach.  It was a short walk to the Atlantic side of the island.  We found a great spot to plant ourselves not far from Nippers (another well-known bar).  We walked for miles in the soft tan sand before and after lunch.  Carla and Carol collected sea shells.  The water colors were amazingly beautiful.  The water was warmer than expected but not so warm that you wanted to stay in it very long.  Also, the air temperature was not very hot and there was a good sea breeze to keep us cool.

Great Guana Beach - 3.5 Miles of Wonderful Powder Sand

The sunlight was extremely bright and sunglasses were a necessity.  “Panda eyes” were commonly seen after the sun went down and vacationers removed their sunglasses.  This misnomer refers to the area around the eyes which did not tan due to the sun glasses providing protection.  The entire face is tan (or burned) with the exception of the area around the eyes which looks like a pale mask.

Happy Hour was at Nippers.  We sat on the upper deck drinking our “Nippers” and talking to a young couple who were taking their American Sailing Association cruising courses.  We made it back to the Orchid Bay Restaurant in time for “Wing Night’’.  Eight wings for $5.  Dinner was wings, fries, macaroni and cheese along with beers.  We watched a most beautiful sunset while waiting for our food to be served.  It was a fine end to another wonderful day in the islands.
