Davis Harbour Marina (Eleuthera Island) to Highbourne Cay (Exuma Islands)

We left Davis Harbour Marina near high tide bound for Highbourne Cay at the north end of the Exuma islands.  The wind was less than 5 mph and we motored all the way.  We had our fishing lines out but caught nothing which was a big disappointment as we were hoping to land some Mahi Mahi which are often caught in the Exuma Sound.

We arrived at the Highbourne Cay Cut at near slack tide and went to an anchorage on the northeastern side of the island where nearly a dozen boats were anchored.  We dropped the hook in about 12 feet of water with a nice sandy bottom.  Our anchor grabbed right away and we were in for the night.  Tenders to the large motor yachts ran past us creating wakes until just before dark.  Most were headed to the beach or the reef at the north end of Highbourne Cay.  The water here is gin clear and warm.  We swam over to Hakuna Matata for sundowners.

Highbourne Cay is a privately owned island with a resort/marina at its southern end.  There is no settlement on the island.  Rumor has it that the Bacardi family (rum) owns the island.  We spent a quiet night in the anchorage a short distance from a beautiful beach on its western shore.  We’ll go ashore in the morning to explore the beach and some trails leading inland.
