Moraine Cay to Green Turtle Cay

Moraine Cay to Green Turtle Cay was another easy journey of about 35 miles. Again, it was a beautiful day. We were doing fine until we tried to get into the harbor.  It was low tide and most of the time, there was less than a foot of water under our keel in the dredged channel. A sailboat was aground just short of the marina and we had to stop to try to figure out if we could get around her without going aground ourselves.

The marina staff advised us to try to slip between the grounded boat and a sign on a pole at the edge of the channel.  The gap was too narrow for us to pass until a fellow in a dinghy came out to help the grounded boat. In the attempt to un-ground her, he pushed her bow far enough out of the way to allow us to attempt to pass.  We plowed ahead through the sand and made it to our slip.  The grounded boat came in a few hours later when the tide began to rise.

The Green Turtle Marina and Resort is a very nice facility. The docks are well maintained and the staff is very proficient. On site is a small marina store with food staples, a restaurant, a wonderful beach, a swimming pool on a bluff overlooking White Sound, golf carts for rent to get around town and fishing charters.  The local ferry makes a stop here and brings vacationers over from Treasure Cay which has an airport. We plan to stay here a few days waiting for a good weather window to pass through the Whale Cay Cut.
