Fishing and Shopping

Dwayne and Frank went fishing all day with a local guide, Lincoln Jones.  He took them to an inlet at the north end of Manjack Cay were they caught several dozen fish while anchored off some rocky ledges.  A dozen or so snapper were caught at the first stop which was right off the tip of the cay.  After fishing there for about an hour, Lincoln moved the boat to the rocks on the other side of the cut and we caught over 2 dozen yellow tale, some grouper which we tossed back as too small and out of season.  Dwayne hooked into what Lincoln thought was a mackerel; however, once again, a shark took Neptune’s tax and the line was severed as the shark devoured the fish.

After fishing for a total of about three hours, we were getting hungry.  Lincoln has a little camp set up with all the items need for a great fish fry.  He brought some potatoes and cole slaw from home to go with the fish we caught.  It wasn’t long before he had a good wood fire going with oil boiling in a huge cast iron skillet.  He fileted about two dozen of the yellow tails and cut the potatoes into thin strips while waiting for the oil to get hot enough for frying.  The potatoes went in first along with a large, sliced onion and spices.  They came out crispy and delicious – not as crisp as potato chips and not as soft as French fries.  We snacked on those while the fish were frying which didn’t take long.  Soon, we were feasting on fish, fries and cole slaw.  Of course, the Goombay started to flow as soon as we landed on the beach.  Wonderful excursion.

The girls went shopping while the boys were fishing.  Carla and Carol took the golf cart into New Plymouth.  They visited the remaining stores in town which were missed on the previous day.  Carla bought a locally woven basket and picked up a few items at the grocery store.  Carol purchased some straw place mats.  They stopped at Pineapples for lunch.

We closed out the day in the very comfortable club house lounge watching President Trump give his first speech to Congress.  Satellite TV reception is very good here.
