Terry to the Airport

Our goal was to depart at 0900 to get Terry to the airport with plenty of time to clear security.  We loaded the car and the serpentine belt broke when the engine started.  We decided to drive the car to an auto repair shop in Rock Hall as it was only a couple of miles away.  The mechanic who checked to see why the belt broke discovered the bearings for the pulley on the air conditioning compressor were shot and the pulley wobbled thus throwing the belt.  Installing a new belt was not a solution.

We drove back to the marina where we asked if we could use the marina’s courtesy car to drive Terry to the airport.  It was already checked out and wouldn’t be returned until after noon which was not soon enough for us as Terry needed to be at the airport no later than noon.  Terry used his Uber app to try to get a lift to the airport.  There were no cars available (probably because no one drives for Uber anywhere around Rock Hall).  There was no way Terry could make his flight since we had lost so much time and still had no way to get to the airport.  He called the airline to reschedule for a later flight.

Dwayne got on the web to locate a rental car.  Enterprise on Kent Island had cars available but wouldn’t come to Rock Hall to pick us up.  U-Save Auto Rental in Chestertown had cars but also would not come to Rock Hall to pick us up.  We asked the marina staff if they had anyone making a run to Chestertown.  They did; however, the driver was already on his way.  One of the great gals at the marina office called the driver on his way to Chestertown and asked if he could return to give us a lift.  He was only about 5 miles away and agreed to come back for us.  We arrived at the rental car office at 10:30 and departed Chestertown at 11:00.

The trip to the airport was uneventful.  Terry arrived in plenty of time to catch his flight.  However, he called Dwayne a few hours later to advise him his flight was delayed due to weather. The airline advised him he would miss his connecting flight resulting in his having to lay over until the next morning before continuing on to Kansas City.  Dwayne offered to pick Terry up so he could spend the night in a bed rather than sleeping in an airport lounge.  Terry decided to try to find an alternative flight which would eventually get him back to Kansas City.  The airline was able route him through Atlanta and he landed in Kansas City just before midnight.  It was a vacation he will remember.
