Reedville to Little Choptank River - Cherry Point Anchorage

It was a bright, sunny, cool day when we left Reedville.  We departed at 0615 since we were going to try to reach Cherry Point on the Little Choptank River before dark.  Carla was reading about Harriet Tubman who was a slave on a farm near Cherry Point.  We enjoy anchoring on the creeks feeding the Little Choptank as they can be deep, quiet and sparsely developed.  It is good to be back on the Chesapeake Bay.  We feel at home here.

US Navy Patrol Boat

The US Navy entertained us as we made our way up the Bay.  They were conducting training on the Potomac River and the Bay itself.  Live fire exercises limited boat traffic on the Potomac River south of the US1 Highway Bridge and range control boats were frequently heard on the radio advising boaters to keep to the shore and monitor their position relative to the ATONs marking the restricted zone on the river.

Carla woke Dwayne who was napping when the Navy got up close and personal.  We were on a course which would eventually take us into an impact zone where flares would land after being launched from Navy aircraft flying out of the Patuxent Naval Air Station.  Dwayne got on the radio with the Navy patrol boat cruising along side us and we were soon altering course and headed toward the western shore.  We had a great vantage point to observe the jets in flight doing low level passes and maneuvers over the Bay.

We pulled into Solomons to get fuel before continuing on to the Little Choptank.  It was a quick easy in and out fuel stop.  A few hours later, we were resting quietly at anchor preparing dinner and settling in for the night.  It was a long day and we went to bed early.
