Saturday, May 16, 2015
The Volvo Ocean Race is the world's premier offshore sailing race. It is an around the world race sailed by teams on 65 foot long, high performance, ocean racing sailboats. The racers will travel almost 39,000 nautical miles over a 9 month period and stop at 11 ports along the way.
While in port, spectators see these incredible boats compete in the In-shore Races which are an exciting element of Volvo Ocean Race. The teams represent various sponsors and countries.
The VOR Newport In-shore Race was sailed just off Fort Adams which served as the VOR Host Venue. It was an excellent site which provided dockage for the boats, workspace for the support teams, ample room for the sponsor exhibits and entertainment. You could get within feet of the boats at their dock and watch the crews and support teams prepare for the races.
