Summit North Marina to Columbia, MD (October 15 - 17)

We moved Foreign Affair from a facing dock to a slip to clear the marina channel for the dredging and to leave our boat where it can be better monitored by the marina staff while we are away on our trip to China.

We drove to Columbia to stay with Dwayne's brother to make final preparations for our trip. Brian and Janet will be going with us. Brian is the master of finding great bargains on cruises and tours.

People's Republic of China

Oct 15: Carla had her haircut and did the laundry. Dwayne and Brian watched Wisconsin lose to The Ohio State at Camp Randall Stadium. Wisconsin looked good in the first half but failed to hold Ohio in the second half. The game was tied at the end of regulation play. Ohio State won in overtime.

Oct 16: Carla went to Baltimore with Janet for the day. The air show was in town and flying over Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Dwayne and Brian watched the Baltimore Ravens lose to New York Giants. Then, they winced (repeatedly) as the Packers played one of their worst games ever losing to the Dallas Cowboys 30 - 16 at Lambeau Field. Lastly, the Chicago Cubs lost to the LA Dodgers 1-0 in a game for the record books. Dodgers pitcher, Clayton Kershaw pitched a remarkable game. He went almost 5 innings before giving up a hit. The Cubs pitchers were also hot. Only 5 hits were recorded during the game. The Cubs batters weren't cold, they were dead. The last time the Cubs were shut out at home during the post season was also in a game that ended with a 1-0 score. That was in 1918. Babe Ruth was the winning pitcher for the Boston Red Sox in that game. It was a bad day in Mudville, Green Bay and Baltimore.

Oct 17: We made our final preparations for the China trip. The bank has been notified of our trip. So, our bank cards should work in China. Carla bought a pair of shoes for the trip. Dwayne left his swim suit on the boat. He found a Speedo on clearance for less than $10 (regularly $60). We will pack tonight and fly out tomorrow.

Posts to this blog will be suspended until our return later in the month.
