Seven Seas Cruising Association Gam - Camp Letts, Edgewater, MD

We arrived at Camp Letts in time for the continental breakfast. The seminars began at 0900. Dwayne went to hear Dave Skolnick's presentation: Offshore to the Bahamas. Beth and Carla took in Behan Gifford's, Exotic Ports: Favorite Cruising Destinations Around the World. Behan, her husband and their three kids have been exploring the world in their Stevens 47 since 2008. Go to the following link for more on the Gifford family.

After lunch the women got together for Women Who Sail. Dwayne dozed off during Lee Chesneau's Why are 500mb Charts Useful for Cruisers. Dwayne heard Lee on this topic twice before and knows the topic is about weather just as he knows trigonometry has something to do with triangles.

We met with Chris Parker and ended up engaging him to be our weather forecaster and router. Chris is the go to guy for cruisers traveling the Bahamas, Caribbean and South East United States. We'll let him worry about 500mb charts and the like. Dwayne did get a copy of Chris' book to help with understanding the basics of weather forecasting.

We took a break in the afternoon to run Beth to the Baltimore-Washington International Airport so she could catch her flight back to Kansas City. It was great to have her aboard. She never complained about anything. She never got sea sick. She was great company. We will gladly have her aboard anytime, anywhere. All she has to do is get to the boat.

We returned to the gam in time for "Happy Hour". Dinner followed. Once again, we sat with Scott, Freddie, Bob and Jody. Someone asked Bob if he was nervous being asked to be the key note speaker. His reply was simple, "Hell no. I've done this before." He did a fine job with a little help from Jody. His topic was familiar to anyone who knows a little about Bob: Attitude is the Difference Between Ordeal and Adventure.

The auction and raffle drawing followed Bob's presentation. We won a voucher for a yacht stamp embosser for Foreign Affair. Apparently, manifests and ship's papers embossed with the ship's seal impress some officials in ports of Central and South American countries. Now, all we have to do is expand our cruising ground to see this is in fact the case.
