Summit North Marina to Columbia, MD (By Car)

We began the morning with a visit from Bill and Helen of Alembic, a Whitby 42 ketch. They are from Maine and began actively cruising about the same time we did. However, they are real Salty Sailors. They have journeyed from Maine to the Florida Keys, across the Gulf of Mexico, spent time in Central America and then traveled along the South American coast before heading north for a return trip to Maine. We have gone to the Florida Keys and as far north as Portland, Maine. Most of our journey has been in protected waters. They have been much more adventurous than us. They have confidence in their boat and are accomplished sailors. They are embarked on a great adventure.

Superb Prime Rib

Bill and Helen decided they were going to press on to the Chesapeake Bay. We bid each other farewell and safe travels after passing an hour or so in conversation learning more about each other while sharing a few of our experiences and discussing our prospects for the future. Perhaps we will meet again off some white, sandy isle in the Bahamas this winter.

After breakfast, we all packed bags for the weekend. Dwayne's brother Brian picked us up later in the day and we were off to Columbia, MD. We wanted to get our car which had been left there and stay with family for a few days. Dwayne suggested we eat somewhere along the way. Brian immediately suggested Mike's Steakhouse in Baltimore. Thursday night specials at Mike's were the 40 ounce porterhouse steaks and prime rib. We had heard about the place and were all for steak. Brian's daughter, Vicki and her family met us there. We did our best to eat it all but failed. We had plenty of doggie bags. 40 ounces is a lot of steak plus there is a potato and vegetable as well. Oh, and the bread was really good. We will visit again someday for sure. Great food and priced right.

It was good to lay in a real bed again. None of us had any trouble getting to sleep. We had very little for the past few days. Tomorrow it is off to Annapolis and then on to the Seven Seas Cruising Association Gam at Camp Letts. Chick and Ruth's for lunch. Yes! Living the good life.
