Sandy Hook to Great Kills Yacht Club

We had a calm night at anchor and slept in. Dwayne made morning coffee which we enjoyed drinking in our cockpit and watching the activity in our anchorage and ashore at Fort Hancock. The old fort is now a park and a ferry brings New York City residents over to enjoy the park and its beach. We weighed anchor after breakfast and headed across Raritan Bay to Staten Island and the Great Kills Yacht Club where we had a slip reserved.

Fort Hancock - Sandy Hook

Literally, hundreds of sport fishing boats dotted the bay and surprisingly most of them were in the commercial shipping channel. Apparently, that is where the fish are most plentiful.

We were met at the Great Kills Yacht Club by John C. who is a harbor host for the America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association (AGLCA) of which we are members. He helped us get into our slip and gave us an orientation to the marina and the local area. Everyone we met at GKYC was very friendly and helpful. The docks were in great shape. They were rebuilt after being washed ashore by Hurricane Sandy.

We spent the rest of the day washing down Foreign Affair and socializing with club members and other Loopers.
