Mamaroneck, NY to Columbia, MD and Back

We left Foreign Affair moored at Mamaroneck and rented a car for the ride to Columbia to pick up our car which was left with family there. The trip was uneventful and we did not have to deal with rush hour traffic. Still, it took almost 5 hours and cost a small fortune in tolls. Brian had the grill going when we arrived. Burgers and brats, beans and potato salad for dinner. Yummy. Did I mention beer? It was also nice to have reliable internet and Carla appreciated the television.

Herreshoff S Boat Moored Next to Foreign Affair

We left the next morning right after breakfast hoping to breeze through NYC and return to the boat in time to do laundry before it got too late. One never breezes through NYC. We made good time until the George Washington Bridge and traffic came to a complete halt on the upper deck. There was no traffic on the lanes heading into New Jersey. We waited an hour before traffic began to crawl across the bridge. As we crossed, Dwayne saw a truck towing a burnt out, bus sized RV toward New Jersey. Apparently, this was the cause of the delay. Traffic was backed up for miles on both sides of the bridge. Again, it took a little over 5 hours to make the trip back to Mamaroneck. We did get back in time to do laundry and have supper before returning to Foreign Affair for the evening. We had BBQ at one of the two BBQ restaurants near the marina. It was another great meal and we had left-overs.

Tomorrow, we head back to Port Washington for a free mooring ball and time ashore there.
