Beaufort to Steamboat Creek Anchorage

We slipped off our mooring ball in time to make the 0900 opening of the Lady's Island Bridge. It is closed from 0700 to 0900 on weekdays for rush hour traffic.  Six additional boats showed up for the opening. Foreign Affair was the first through followed by Enough and the rest of the flotilla.  We were strung out in a long line winding our way down the ICW for several hours before the lead boats disappeared ahead of us.

Boats Queuing Up to Pass Through Lady's Island Bridge

Along the way, we watched an airplane flying out of Marine Corps Air Station Merritt Field doing "touch and goes".  We also saw numerous dolphins (no good pictures yet despite frequent sightings each day), There were very few homes along this stretch of the ICW as the rivers are wide and meander through grassy marshes.  We anchored in the wide and open North Edisto River hoping to avoid bugs and have a cool breeze to make for comfortable sleeping.  Instead of dying down as forecast the wind continued to blow at about 10 miles per hour against the tide and waves began to build.  As a result, we moved to Steamboat Creek for better protection from the waves.  The wind kept the bugs away and we were able to enjoy the evening.

Doing "Touch and Goes"

Dwayne prepared shrimp scampi and rice for dinner,  Janet made the salad.  We drank the bottle of Robeert Mondavi Chardonnay we were given as a welcome gift at the Harbour Town Yachting Center. Dessert was coffee, tea and Biscoff Lotus cookies.  Another round of sheapshead and music by gone but not forgotten artists provided entertainment for the evening.
