Bound for New York City

Foreign Affair is now bound for New York City.  We expect to arrive on/about 2 July.

Sira, a friend of the family and German university student has joined us as crew.  Also aboard is Dwayne’s cousin Tom.  Both have been very helpful in getting the boat ready for this journey.

We were able to sail on a single reach the entire 35 miles to Worton Creek where we anchored for the night.  Top speed over ground was 8 knots.  Winds were from the west and increased in velocity during the day into the low 20 knot range with gusts up to 30.  Waves ranged from 1 to 3 feet.  Partly cloudy and temperatures were high 60’s to low 80’s.  Boat handled well and crew performed flawlessly.

We cast off at 0930 with 4 other boats from the Herrington Harbour Sailing Association who were bound for Cape May, NJ for the holiday weekend.  We plan to spend one night at Cape May and then head north up the New Jersey coast for NYC.   Weather is predicted to be favorable the entire trip.

We anchored just south of the Worton Creek Marina so it would be an easy dinghy ride to the Harbor House Restaurant for dinner.  There was no need to mount the outboard as we were so close to the docks and Tom ably performed his duties as designated rower.  Food was good and the dinner conversation lively with 14 people from 5 boats present.

Slept well through the cool night and woke to bright sunshine and a gentle breeze.
