Nassau Day 6

It began raining last night as predicted.  Winds are now steadily blowing in the 20s.  The water in harbor is getting very choppy.  Foreign Affair is rocking and rolling in her slip.  We have all our fenders out and added additional dock lines.  The well-built dock itself is swaying a little under the stress as Sophia and Foreign Affair get waked by boats large enough to be out and about catering to cruise ship tourists.  This blow is forecast to last at least a week.  The marina is full.  Boats have been coming in from the islands for the past few days seeking shelter.  We will have ample opportunity to see the sights in Nassau.

Preparing Cracked Conch

Carla spent the day doing laundry and reading.  Dwayne decided to get his quarterly haircut.  He ended up at a salon in the nearby shopping center.  The haircut looks good but it was expensive compared to his last one at Price’s Barber Shop in St. Augustine.  There was no senior discount.  He was advised, “You had a long time to get the money.”  A pound lighter, Dwayne was off to the “Fresh Market” for groceries.  Later he headed off to Potter’s Cay to get some fresh conch for dinner.

Elena, Carla and Carol gathered together to pound the conch for dinner.  Elena learned how to prepare cracked conch using Zatarains Southern Fish Fry seasoning which gives it a wonderful spicy flavor.  Cecil is from Louisiana and likes spicy.  We had a wonderful meal and great conversation.  Amazingly, we learned that Sophia was docked across from Keith and Emily’s, Jubilee at Herrington Harbour North.  Dwayne, Cecil and Elena crewed on Jubilee at times for races but never met until now.  Cecil and Elena were married at Herrington Harbour South which is where we have kept Foreign Affair on several occasions.  It is a big ocean but a small world.
