Nassau Day 12 - Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday, we returned to Ebenezer Methodist Church to join their welcoming congregation in celebrating this holy day.  The flower arrangements were many and magnificent.  The pastor gave wonderful sermon once again and we learned why Ebenezer is known as “the singing church.”  Six hymns were sung during the communion service alone.  Now, I know why they hand out cough drops before the service begins.

Carol prepared a simple, yet tasty brunch of French toast and ham.  We followed that with a nap.  Once rested, it was time to prepare for our Monday morning departure.  Carla did the laundry and filled the water tanks.  Dwayne notified the marina dock master and paid our marina bill.  He also advised our marina neighbors and lined up a few to help us get off the dock in the morning.  We plan to leave at 0800 which is close to slack tide.

The weather forecast was not good but good enough for us to attempt a return to Highbourne Cay.  The winds are supposed to drop down from the 20s into the high teens and the direction should change from the Northeast to East.  Cloud cover could be from 50 to 100 per cent.  Waves were predicted to be 4 to 5 feet.  Normally, we would not go under these conditions; however, the forecast for tomorrow is the best for nearly a week and we have already been holed up too long.  We would rather have a bumpy ride for a day and hope our anchorage is no more turbulent than our slip in Nassau.  We are on our way if we can see the sun tomorrow.

We ended the day with drinks and snacks aboard Foreign Affair.  Frank, Carol, Cecil and Elena came over and we had a great time talking about our future plans.  Frank and Carol will be heading back to the States as soon as they can get a delivery captain to commit to helping them get Hakuna Matata at least to West End and from there, they think they can get the boat across the Gulf Stream on their own.  Cecil and Elena are also heading back to the States.  They are waiting for a weather window.  Some thought was given to a buddy boat arrangement with Hakuna Matata and Sophia traveling together to the Fort Pierce Inlet and clearing in at Vero Beach.  Foreign Affair will return to the Exumas with an expected return to the States sometime in early to mid-May.  Our cruising permit is good until May 19th without renewal.
