Provisioning and a Drive to West Palm Beach
Friday, February 03, 2017
Pearl arrived last night. They will be in
Vero Beach for a few days waiting on parts and working on boat projects. We
still had a rental car and we invited them to join us on our provisioning run.
We headed to the Yanmar dealer to order parts for our engines. Other stops
included West Marine, Home Depot, Walmart and Publix. The car’s trunk was full
when we returned to the marina.
Thank You, Pete and Dianne for the Tow |
Our dinghy was
resting low in the water due to the weight of all the provisions we purchased.
We were lucky Pete and Dianne were with us because our outboard failed to start
for some reason and it was a long way from the dinghy dock to Foreign Affair if you had to row. They
were heading back to their boat which was a short distance from ours and gave
us a tow. We were happy for that since we needed to get to West Palm Beach for
dinner with Carol, my favorite sister-in-law’s mother. We were running late as
it was and rowing the dinghy would have taken much more time than motoring.
We quickly stowed our provisions when we arrived at Foreign Affair. We were lucky. Dwayne got the outboard started and we were able to head back to shore under power. We called Carol to let her know we were finally leaving Vero and would be a little late for our dinner date.
Carol had a
wonderful taco casserole dish ready for us when we arrived. Dessert was pie and
ice cream. We had a nice visit. She had just returned from a Caribbean cruise
with her family. The grandchildren were the focal point of most pictures. Carol
was kind enough to let us store a few duffel bags of items we wouldn’t need in
the Bahamas. We’ll pick them up on our way north in the spring.
The ride
back to Vero Beach went much quicker than the ride to West Palm. We didn’t have
to deal with the rush hour traffic on the return trip. We were thrilled to hear
the outboard start on the first pull. We were very tired and didn’t want to row
back to Foreign Affair at the end of
a long day. It was after mid-night before we found ourselves in bed.
