Grace and Silver Girl
Friday, February 10, 2017
Grace took the mooring next to us early in
the afternoon. Kevin and Debbie had just finished making a run back from the
Bahamas. They are cutting their Bahamian winter sojourn short so they can
attend a wedding. They are from Vermont and sail Lake Champlain during the
summer and cruise the Bahamas in the winter. We invited them over to visit and they
joined us for a couple of hours despite being tired.
Kevin and Debbie - Grace |
We had
hardly begun getting acquainted when Silver
Girl arrived with the intent of rafting with Grace. Kevin jumped in his dinghy and went over to assist. Vero Beach is
one of the few places that allows rafting and you are expected to accept
another boat when there are no empty moorings available. Kevin returned in about
15 minutes and Claus the captain of Silver
Girl followed soon after. Claus and his wife are also heading to the
Bahamas for the first time and this was an opportunity for Kevin and Debbie to share what
they knew with all of us at one time.
Claus - Silver Girl |
We had a very nice get together and learned much about each other as well as the Bahamas. Debbie gave Carla a lot of advice on provisioning and services available (or not available) on various islands. Kevin answered questions on navigation and anchorages. They were very happy to share what they had learned over several winters in the Bahamas.
Claus is
also planning to depart out of Fort Lauderdale for West End. Based on the
current weather forecast, it is possible we might be departing on the same day.
If so, Silver Girl might be traveling
with Foreign Affair and Hakuna Matata at least for the Gulf
Stream crossing.
Looks heavenly!!
