Solomons Island to Herrington Harbour

We laid over at Solomons on May 23 due to the weather.  The rain stopped and the sun finally came out in the late afternoon.  Paul visited the Calvert Maritime Museum which is one of the best on the Bay. Carla and Dwayne just took a walk looking for ice cream and found none.  They went as far as the Tiki Bar and then returned to Zahniser's Marina for the evening as it once again began to rain.

We didn't leave Solomons until 0930 on May 24 due to the rain which stopped as predicted at 0900. Our journey north to Herrington Harbour was very pleasant.  The sun shone brightly and warmed us as we glided across the very smooth Chesapeake Bay.  We stayed close to the shoreline so we could enjoy the scenery.  The high bluffs and several light houses make this one of the most attractive shorelines on the Bay.  No wonder so many people hug the shore as they cruise to Solomons Island.

Our slip at Herrington Harbour South was on the same dock as we were last Fall which was convenient.  It was at the end of a fairway which helped getting lined up easier than was the case in the past; however, there were only a few inches between our rub rail and the pilings at midship which made getting all the way into the slip challenging.  One of our neighbors at Herrington from previous visits saw us coming in and gave us a hand pulling the boat into the slip and securing dock lines.

Dwayne met with Bob Green to complete the registration process, pick up the restroom keys and gather our welcome packet.  We headed for the showers as soon as the shore power was connected and everything on board was in good order.  We went to Mango's for dinner.  Carla had the blackened salmon and Dwayne had the shrimp tacos.

We had a good internet connection and were able to watch the movie Chaplin on Netflix.  Dwayne stayed up late researching options for things to do when Ann and her sons join us at Mystic Seaport in July.  It feels good to be back on the Chesapeake and docked in this beautiful marina which once again was voted "Best on the Bay" by readers of Chesapeake Bay Magazine.
