Tahiti Beach to Marsh Harbour
Sunday, March 19, 2017
The weather
was turning on us again. Winds clocked
to the west and eventually north. We
decided to seek refuge behind Marsh Harbour just off Boat Harbour Marina which
is where we weathered out the last cold front.
Hakuna Matata headed to the
Conch Inn Marina in Marsh Harbour.
Drag Queen Anchor Alarm (Alerts When Your Anchor Is Dragging) |
The winds started to build sooner than expected. The waves in the Sea of Abaco were up to 3 feet by the time we arrived at our anchorage. Four other boats were already there. We took up a spot very near the one we previously occupied. The Rocna grabbed right away in sand and we laid out 150 feet of chain in 10 feet of water at MLW with a just shy of 3 foot tide. Boats kept arriving all day long and by sunset we had nearly 20 boats strung out along the shoreline.
Carla made a
wonderful dinner of tortellini and we broke open our last bottle of red
wine. We cranked up the generator and
watched a movie, Master and Commander:
The Far Side of the World. We
had special sound effects by the time the movie reached the scene where the
British warship was rounding the Cape during a storm. The wind was whistling through our rigging
and Foreign Affair was rocking and
rolling a bit more than usual.
Before
turning in for the night, Dwayne climbed into the cockpit to shut down the
generator and survey the waters around us.
We were surprised to see a large motor yacht anchored a very short
distance behind us. With all this open
space, why do people want to anchor so close to another boat – particularly
when a storm is forecast for the night?
We set our
Drag Queen anchor alarm and took bearings so we could plot our position and the
position of the motor yacht on our charting software. This would allow us to determine if we were
dragging or in danger of hitting the motor yacht during the night. Dwayne checked our position periodically throughout
the night. Our anchor was holding.
