Glass Window Bridge to Alabaster Bay

It was another beautiful morning.  We had a leisurely breakfast.  Hakuna Matata was underway at 0900.  We weighed anchor an hour later. There was a breeze from the south strong enough to move us along at 4 knots.  We set out our fishing lines and had one good strike just before noon.  Dwayne worked the fish for a good five minutes before it was able to throw the hook.  It was exciting while it lasted.

Alabaster Bay - Hakuna Matata at Anchor

We sailed on our first tack until noon and came about to sail for another hour before the wind died enough to reduce our speed to about 2 knots.  It was time to crank up the engine and head directly to Alabaster Bay for the night.

Alabaster Bay provides good protection from all directions but the west.  We didn’t have to worry since conditions were very calm.  We anchored just off the Governor’s Harbour Airport which is really nothing more than a landing strip.  The US Navy had a base here during the “Cold War” to monitor missile launches.  The base is now abandoned.  Several planes landed at the airport while we were anchored but none arrived later than an hour before sundown.

We arrived at the anchorage at 1600.  Five other boats were already there.  It didn’t take us long to get settled in for the evening.  Carla made burritos for dinner.  Fish were jumping not far from us which meant bigger fish were having dinner as well.  After finishing supper, Dwayne and Frank launched off in a dinghy to try to catch some fish for tomorrow’s evening meal.  They came back empty handed as the sun set.  Perhaps we will have better luck tomorrow.
