Cocoa to Vero Beach

We left Cocoa at 0830 with cold winds at our back making for chilling ride down the ICW. We were very glad to be cruising at 7 knots much of the day. We covered the 43 miles to Vero Beach in 7 hours. Upon our arrival, we took a mooring ball and went in for showers to warm up.

Vero Beach Municipal Marina Mooring Field
Vero Beach is a haven for cruisers. The city is very welcoming and provides support for the hundreds of sailors who arrive at it municipal marina for a layover of a few days or months. It is a good spot to fit out for a passage to the Bahamas or the Florida Keys. The city runs a free bus service to many of the places of interest to cruisers: grocery store, West Marine, hardware store, restaurants, parks and beaches. The dinghy dock is full all day with 20 – 30 dinghies waiting for owners to return from their activities ashore.

We are on a mooring with two cutters flying the Seven Seas Cruisers’ Association burgee. We will try to introduce ourselves if we see them tomorrow.
