Washington D. C.

Chinatown, Washington D.C.

The sun finally came out this afternoon and we enjoyed our last day in Washington, D.C.  We had a great breakfast in a café near the National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum which we visited in the morning.  The afternoon we spent at the National Museum of the American Indian which is one of the newest museums on the Mall.  With that, we have now spent some time in each of the major museums on the Mall.

Over the past two plus weeks we have become quite familiar with the area south of the Mall as we have walked most of the streets in this neighborhood.  Our last outing in DC was to Chinatown during a last minute run to Walmart to get Carla’s prescription and more provisions for the boat.

Everyone at the Capitol Yacht Club has been very welcoming and made us feel right at home.  Many stopped by to wish us well as we prepared to depart for our journey south.  We promised we’d return for a while for a visit in the spring.

Hurricane Joaquin appears to have finally moved far enough off the east coast for the winds to moderate and seas to settle.  It looks like we have a good weather window for our 4 day journey to Hampton, VA.  We are hoping the waves have settled some by the time we get to the mouth of the Potomac.  Point Lookout is still experiencing some higher than average winds and waves.
