St. Micheals to Rock Hall

We got
underway at 1030 hoping to arrive at Haven Harbor Marina before the marina
staff went home for the evening. The
wind for once was favorable; however, it was so light we hardly got any real
benefit. The best additional speed we
derived from having the genoa set was ½ knot and that lasted less than an
hour. We kept the sail up for an
additional hour hoping the wind velocity would increase but it did not. We finally rolled up the genoa as it was
hanging limp and obstructing our vision.
There were many boats of all sorts on the Bay as it was a beautiful
day.
Course Over Ground 345 Degrees - Heading 127 Degrees Must Be A Lot of Current in Swan Creek |
Terry threw out a line hoping to catch a fish. He had no hits during a three hour period and lost his lure when another sailboat passed astern of us and ran over his line snagging the lure. He gave up on fishing and took a two hour nap to pass his time.
Dwayne was at the helm
most of the day and pushed the engine some in order to maintain a speed of at
least 6 knots regardless of wind, wave and current. All was well, until the autopilot did a
“Crazy Ivan” as we were heading up Swan Creek.
The boat’s wheel went hard to port and Foreign Affair nearly completed a 180 degree turn before Dwayne was
able to gain control and return her to a proper course. At least the autopilot worked for all but the
last half hour of our weekend cruise. We
arrived at Haven Harbor at 4:30 without further mishap.
