Herrington Harbour to Worton Creek

We departed Herrington Harbour early in the morning for a long run to Worton Creek where we rendezvoused with Chuck and Nat aboard Trinity, a Catalina 387.  Like us, they are members of the Catalina 380 Association and that is how we first became acquainted. Our paths crossed several times while heading down the ICW. They happened to be heading back home to Barnegat Bay at the same time we were bound for New York.  So, we decided to meet in Worton Creek and buddy boat for our trip north up the New Jersey coast.

Schooner Gazella

We motor-sailed all the way to Worton Creek as there wasn't much wind and we had a long way to go. The Bay provided us with plenty to keep our interest and it felt good to be in familiar waters again. The variety of vessels on the Bay is amazing. Besides modern tugs and freighters you can find schooners under sail (or power when there is little wind).  We were fortunate enough to see 3 schooners during our 50 mile run to Worton Creek.

Carla and I have been in Worton Creek twice before. The Harbor House Restaurant is at the end of the navigable portion of the creek. Unfortunately, it was closed when we arrived. Carla made us a great meal since we had a full stock of fresh provisions as it was our first day out.
