Smith Creek (St. Inigoes) to Solomons

It was raining when we woke and still blowing a bit.  We decided to wait a few hours before departing as the forecast was for improving weather as the day progressed.  We cranked up the engines at 0900.  The rain had stopped by the time we headed out into the Bay. As was often the case, the wind was in our face the entire trip. The waves were also from the north at 2 to 3 feet with an occasional 4 footer to create some spray.  So, we motored on staying just far enough off the shoreline to avoid crab traps. We didn't want to spend another dreary day at anchor - better to be moving forward.  Laying up in Solomons would at least give us options ashore.

We were pleasantly surprised to see Full Circle at the dock when we arrive at Solomons.  They were bound for Annapolis and we didn't think we'd see Bill and Amy again when we parted ways in Norfolk, VA. Like us, poor weather delayed them long enough for us to catch up.

We also caught up with Sea Change. Mike and Robin plan to spend the summer there. They invited us to join them for dinner along with their friends Chuck, Bob and Theresa of At Ease.  Of course, we needed to eat. Dwayne suggested the Angler's Restaurant which is within sight of Zahniser's mooring field. As in the past, the food was great and everyone had fun - particularly, when we shared "stories of our adventures at sea." Fishermen lie about the size of the fish they caught.  Sailors lie about how windy it was and how tall and steep the waves were. A few beers helps the stories get better.

We all went our own way after dinner.  Carla wanted to clean some clothes and headed to the laundry. Dwayne and Paul wanted to tell more stories and headed over to visit Bill and Amy on Full Circle.  That gam lasted a couple of hours and was very pleasant. We discussed our plans for the near future and shared what we knew about the Chesapeake Bay, Long Island Sound and the Bahamas.  Bill and Amy spent the winter in the Bahamas and passed on some good information.  Dwayne and Carla plan to winter in the Bahamas this year.  Paul will return to Boca Chica/Key West.

Amy has to get to a wedding and needs to be in Annapolis tomorrow.  So, Full Circle will cast off early in the morning regardless of the weather which is not supposed to be too bad.  Rain is forecast. The wind and waves will be doable.  No small craft warnings will be in effect.
