Mel Fisher Maritime Museum and Hog Fish Bar & Grill

We went to the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum in the morning.  Mel was one of the early promoters of sport diving and spent much of his life hunting for sunken treasure.  He succeeded in locating the Spanish galleons, Nuestra Senora de Atocha and Santa Margarita, which sank during a hurricane in 1622 along with many other vessels which made up the Tierra Firma flota.  Millions of dollars worth of gold, silver, copper, pearls and gemstones were among the cargo.  The museum contains many of the artifacts recovered from these two ships, as well as, from the slave ship, Henrietta Marie.  Piracy was also a major theme of the museum.  The exhibits were amazing and informative.

Hogfish Bar and Grill

We relaxed on Foreign Affair and at the marina in the afternoon.  For Happy Hour, the marina had a steel drum band which entertained us until we left for dinner at the Hogfish Bar & Grill.  It has been written up as one of the best "out of the way/hard to find" places to eat in the Keys.  It is located on Stock Island adjacent to the working harbor with its shrimp boats and charter fleet.  Eric and Dwayne had the Hogfish Sandwich.  Carla and Emi were not as adventurous and ate hamburgers.  It was a great meal in a fun place.  The one man band was as good as the food.  We only had to wait 45 minutes to be seated as it was a Friday night and the place was at capacity.
