Briefing at Spooner Creek |
We had our briefing for the next leg of our journey. We will be encountering our first “trouble
spots” on the ICW which are places where it is easy to go aground due to
shoaling, strong currents or contend with other factors such as live-fire
exercises at the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejuene. We will also have to plan to arrive in time to
meet bridge opening schedules.
Provisioning, boat maintenance and heavy duty shopping
filled the day after the briefing. Janet
started her Christmas shopping and brought back a Little Caesar’s Pizza and some
Arby’s roast beef sandwiches.
The SAIL fleet splits into three groups for the passage to
Southport. One group is going off-shore
into the Atlantic to avoid the “trouble spots”.
A second group will move to Topsail Sound, anchor for the night and get
into Southport Marina the next day. The
third group will make two stops before arriving at Southport. The first stop will be at anchor in Mile
Hammock Bay. The second stop will be at
Wrightsville Beach to anchor and dingy over to the South Beach Grill for “Happy
Hour”. The following day they will
arrive at Southport where we will all be reunited. Foreign
Affair will make the two stop move with the second group.
