Rock Hall (Haven Harbour Marina) to West River

We spent the morning in Haven Harbour Marina doing chores and preparing for movement. Carla did some laundry. Dwayne used the 5 gallon can to get some diesel so we could change our fuel filters and add to the fuel tank. He replaced the old snubber line which was frayed during our night at anchor off Rock Hall with a new one. There was time enough to watch a short episode of Distant Shores while waiting for the wash to dry. The Shards have been sending out emails with links to programs which might be of interest to us. There two most recent contained links to segments of their TV programs on the Bahamas. They are both entertaining and informative. To learn more go to the following link. Paul and Sheryl have other segments also posted to YouTube.

We left Haven Harbour Marina as soon as the laundry was done which was at 1130. The marina is one of the nicest we have encountered on the Chesapeake. The restrooms and laundry are clean and convenient. There is a well stocked ships store. They are a full service marina with a diverse array of skilled staff. Almost any type of work or repair can be done there in first class facilities. Everyone we met was helpful and courteous. As far as we are concerned, Haven Harbour is the place to stay in Rock Hall. It consistently received praise in Active Captain and deserves the accolades.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge

Our trip to the West River was short and uneventful which was fine with us. Highlights of the day were passing under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and passing through several ships at anchor waiting to go into Baltimore for cargo. One was from Hong Kong and flying the Chinese flag. It was only a few days ago we were enjoying ourselves in China. It is indeed a small, global world.

Ships at Anchor - Waiting to Load Cargo in Baltimore

It got down to 43 degrees last night and the dampness made it seem colder. We definitely need to get south fast. The weather today was cloudy with a high of 59. The wind was from the south at 5 to 8 mph which with the dampness in the air made it feel colder than the temperature indicated. It was a bit chilly of a ride. We were able to motor sail half the day which helped us get to our anchorage by 1600. That made us happy.

We have never been up the West River before. So, it was interesting. The north shoreline as you enter the river is wooded. The rest of the river is lined with houses and private docks. A couple of marinas are also operating a short distance up stream. We found a good spot in 8 foot of water to anchor. Dinner tonight spaghetti left over from Pasta Plus and a fresh salad with wine. Yum, yum. Quick and easy, too. Maybe well get good TV reception and be able to catch the World Series.
