Anchor and Chain
Friday, June 12, 2015
We spent most of the day swapping out our anchors and painting chain. Dwayne's method of improving the odds that the anchor won't drag is to use the best anchor type on board for the bottom conditions and have a big anchor attached to a long chain.
The anchor which came with the boat was a Fortress FX23 which according to the manufacturer is appropriate for boats 39-45 feet in length. Foreign Affair is just short of 39 feet long.
Dwayne's bigger anchor = better odds of not dragging resulted in the purchase of a Fortress FX37 anchor which is for boats 46-51 feet long.
The FX23 will be used as a stern anchor when needed. It comes apart without too much effort and can be stowed in one of the aft lazarettes or hung on a pulpit.
